Nigel is the Managing Director of Rio Tinto’s Copper and Diamonds operations comprising Kennecott Copper and Resolution Copper in the US, Diavik Diamonds in Canada and Argyle Diamonds in Australia. He is based in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.
Nigel holds a BSc(eng) and PhD in Metallurgy and Materials Science from Imperial College, London, UK and is an Associate of the Royal School of Mines. He also holds an MBA from Queen’s University, Canada. Nigel worked for Rio Tinto Alcan for 26 years holding various operational and functional positions in the fields of R&D, Environment, Environment and Technical Management, Regional Industrial Development, Technology Sales, Operational Excellence and Climate Change both in Europe and in Canada. He was also Vice-President of Technology Sales, Operational Excellence and Climate Change for the Business Development & Growth Group of Rio Tinto Alcan, comprising the AP Smelter Technology Sales Group, Alumina Refinery Sales, ECL and Alesa companies, and more recently Senior Vice-President, Carbon businesses, Energy and Climate Change for the Commercial Business Unit of Rio Tinto Alcan. Prior to moving to Copper as the Managing Director of Kennecott Copper in February 2015 he was Senior Vice-President of the Technology and Supply Chain Business Unit and a member of Rio Tinto Alcan’s Executive Committee.
He has held his present position since August 2016.
Nigel is married to Beverley and they have one daughter who is currently studying at University in the UK.
